SJ21 MUSIC IS CLOSING
25th June 2020
It’s with a heavy heart that I announce it is time to close the doors on SJ21 Music.
Over the past few months, with the pandemic in full force, I have been contemplating the best path forward given the brevity of time in operation for the company but also the financial and personal commitments of SJ21 Music and myself. During this time, and given the expectation of long delays on positive revenues on the management and label side of operations for the company, I have made the hard decision to close up shop. While COVID-19 played a large part in this process, many factors have impacted this decision.
While the music community and my music family have been my heart and soul for many years, simply put, being a small business owner during a pandemic has created the conditions in which it is time to say goodbye to SJ21 Music as we know it. The business is not adequately prepared for the challenges presented by the pandemic to assure its continued success and ultimately to assure the continued success of our artist clients as we weather this storm.
SJ21 Music, and my role in the music community, is just a small piece of a very large and important puzzle. Music business owners (artists, agents, publicists, venues, managers, production teams, merchandisers, and so forth) all over the world are facing this same struggle. Other businesses are of course taking a punch, but the music community is taking a particularly hard hit. While I don’t have the answers for the challenges ahead, I want to encourage you to keep supporting in whatever ways you can this beautiful artistic community which is and always will be a home for us and so many like us.
I cannot begin to tell you how much I have enjoyed this ride with you, and playing a small role in providing a home for artists and events that helped shape our music community has forever changed my life. I owe a great deal of indebtedness to you and all those have who have supported me in and on this journey for the better part of 12 years as business owner in the music community and a life-long supporter of music in so many different ways.
It is not easy to say goodbye in total and I have been afforded a great opportunity to not have to do so. I will continue to work with the Earl Scruggs Music Festival by consulting with them on their inaugural festival slated for September 3-4, 2021. I’m fortunate and grateful for this opportunity which allows me the flexibility to remain involved with music in some way. I hope we’ll find ways to stay connected and work together with the festival as it grows into the future.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart. Onward and upward…
